You: Hidden bodies – Caroline Kepnes

I finished YOU season 2 much later than everyone else because of two reasons. The first one is that I started much later, exam time isn’t the time to watch a new show. The second thing is that I can not binge-watch shows nor do I want to be. Besides that I wasn’t a fan, it felt a bit flat. This might be because the big twist at the end was something I saw coming from miles away.

It was nevertheless an enjoyable show but it missed something. And that was the moment I knew. After season one ended I listened to the audiobook of you. Caroline Kepnes is a good writer. She captures Joe in a way where you know he is a bad person but you can sort of see his point. For example, he sees something as a mercy killing therefore it is not bad. Now I do not think this is a mercy killing but I do agree that mercy killings aren’t always bad. So I decided to read the second book of the series.
‘Hidden bodies’ here is my review..

The book in short
Joe came to Los Angeles to start over, to forget about what happened in New York. But in a darkened room in Soho House everything suddenly changed.
She is like no one he’s ever met before. She doesn’t know about his past and never can. The problem is, hidden bodies don’t always stay that way.

My thoughts
It was a good book. I found the story so different from the series but in all aspects so much better. In the book Love is a cali girl more than she is in the tv-series. Joe is simply crazy. In the show I find that it feels as if the things are just happening to him. That he almost can’t help it, that he is trying to do and to be better. Where in the book you can see through this. This might be the beauty of it. I don’t like nor respect book Joe. But I also can’t look away. When you know it’s wrong but you just sit there and watch. Book Joe is less smart, less murderous but worse in every way imaginable. I would highly recommend reading this book.

Lots of love,
Melissa
