Slayter Brothers #11: Brothers – L.A. Casey

Sometimes when a book becomes a series or a film you sort of feel that it shouldn’t, other times you are so excited. This is the first book series I have felt so strongly should become a series. Honestly, I volunteer, and I think I could write the screenplay (truly I couldn’t but one can dream). This book series is so good, I find it funny, and witty it makes me laugh and cry. It really is my comfort series, so here we are the last book of the series. Let’s go.

Disclaimer
This book contains erotic material. If you do not feel comfortable with reading erotic stories, I recommend not reading this book. In theory, you could skip over the parts but I do feel that it is very much integrated with the story. There are amazing books out there without explicit materials that I would recommend you check out instead.
In addition in this book, sexual assault is mentioned. The audiobook gives a disclaimer (I think the kindle version does too. This chapter is easily skipped and the material will not be mentioned explicitly before or after this chapter.

Besides the book, I suppose it is time to talk a bit about the series in general. The audio versions of the book and most importantly the book covers.

The book in short
Loyalty.
Respect.
Wit.
Aggression.
Heart.
Each word describes the Slater brothers and how they were moulded into the men they are today … but what did it take to get them where they are?
Pain.
Disregard.
Fear.
Anger.
Love.
Peeling back each layer to find the brothers’ core means looking at their past to see how they got their future. From overcoming family feuds and breaking a warlord’s hold on them to moving to another country and finding women who make their world spin.
The Slater brothers idolise their women, and what the Slater brothers idolise, the Slater brothers guard.I found this information here.

What did I think?
After ten books, after five stories we finally get to hear from the men themselves the brothers. What a beautiful way to end a series. Wow. I usually do not like different timelines that much as I get very confused. In this book, it’s very clear. It follows the brothers in the same order as the book thus Dominic, Alec, Kane, Ryder, and Damien. It generally follows patterns of them now, when they have children, and when they are married. So how life is today, then it has a memory from before Ireland (so their youth), a memory of when they met their significant other which is so much fun. It’s the same story through different eyes and it’s beautiful and then it goes back to today.

The story of ‘Today’ follows all the brothers in one day from the moment they wake up to the last chapter where they all meet at a pub. Together where they click their glass to their families and each other. It makes me feel every type of way. I love all the stories and the way they interlink but this one tucks at my heart the most. There is always a story that springs out to me the most. But this book, makes me so happy for all of them, all of them deserved all that they got so much. 6-year-old Ryder. It breaks my heart every time a million pieces. The fact that he says to his dad ‘They are mine, they are my kids” (which is not a direct quote). It makes me fall in love with Ryder all over again, despite his flaws. He protected these boys the best he could. It’s lovely to see the guys’ perspectives on the relationships they have as it feels different enough from the story we already know but it’s a nodd to those stories as well. Every single time I love it all over again, I adore this series.

Can someone explain to me who thought that spicy books need spice covers? Because how awkward. You cannot read this on the bloody bus, except funnily enough this one. I love the cover of Brothers. I think erotic novels get such a bad rep and this has to do with the way they are marketed. Honestly, it is in most cases just a very straightforward romance book that is a bit more realistic, not that your boyfriend being a former mob prince turned slave for a scary mob boss is very realistic but still the relationship struggles are realistic. I think the marketing is doing so many great books dirty. I think a lot of people miss out on great stories because of things like the covers.

I read this book for free with my audible account, the narrator had a very nice voice, and she had an Irish accent which was great because the people in the stories have those as well. She was easy to listen to and didn’t talk too fast or too slow. The books were included in my membership and I absolutely loved listening to them. I really recommend this series, because they are all interlinked I urge you to start with the first one.
