Slayter Brothers #9: Damien – L.A. Casey

Damien is my favourite twin, there I said it he might even be my favourite brother. Let’s get into his story.

Disclaimer
This book contains erotic material. If you do not feel comfortable with reading erotic stories, I recommend not reading this book. In theory, you could skip over the parts but I do feel that it is very much integrated with the story. There are amazing books out there without explicit materials that I would recommend you check out instead.

The book in short
Alannah Ryan had always suffered in silence, until that silence became so deafening she spilled secrets that she never intended to. At one point in her life, she yearned for adventure, a nail biting journey … something other than the mundane life she led. Her pleas were answered in the form of a tall, handsome heart breaker with a mop of white hair.
Alannah’s dreams for an exciting twist in her life were shattered because of a teenage mistake. One that has haunted her for over five years, and left her in pieces.
Damien Slater was the reason for every bad thing in the lives of those he loved most. A decision he made when he was just fifteen destroyed his brothers’ lives, and there was nothing he could do to change the things they had endured. Ruining them hurt, but ruining the only woman who wanted him for more than one night hurt a hell of a lot more.
Running away helped Damien heal, and returning to Ireland only caused Alannah more pain. Pain he intended to eradicate and replace with the passion he knew they both shared. Breaking down her walls was not the only challenge Damien faced. Another had plans of his own, and his intentions weren’t for physical vengeance, but something far worse.

Damien values Alannah above all else, and what Damien values, Damien fights for.
I found this information here.

This cover is either edited or the guy has coloured his hair or maybe it is the editing that would make it even worse.

What did I think?
My heart breaks for Damien, I love Damien something fierce and you know what the horrible thing is? I do not like Allanah all that much… I am unsure as to why as she seems lovely and I feel for her as her mother is battling cancer. She is simply not my favourite character.

We learn that in the family business which we know a lot about now, Damien was completely left out. I think it was on purpose that Damien was left out, which made him feel that he was left out and not part of the family. There is no more psychological torture than that. From his perspective, it is all his fault and he cannot do anything about it. Which, I find so sad, you would think his brothers would have assured him this wasn’t the case. In addition, he is the baby brother who has always craved love and attention from his older brothers he is a family person. In a way, this is why Allan’s torture method is psychological torture as it mirrors what Damien has gone through. Allanah and Damien are similar in that way, they both love their family and they are both too much in their own head. They find themselves less important than the people around them.

If they had told Lana what happened back in the first book so from the beginning I think she and Damien would have talked much sooner, it’s Branna’s storyline all over again. No one communicates. It isn’t okay to keep such things from others especially Bronagh as Allanah is her best friend. Allanah was almost violated and she didn’t know. that is something you cannot really get back from when you have kept it from someone.  I think she would have understood much better. They didn’t tell her but it also made their relationship much harder when it didn’t have to be.

I do feel for Allanah and I feel for Damien. A lesson learned in this book is that protection can only go so far. Damien has seen it all, he is very perspective. The scars on Kane, the things that happened to Alec, the strain of carrying and protecting the whole family on Ryder. Every broken bone and bruise on Dominic. And he feels that every blow is on him, imagine living like that. I like how they come together in the end and how Allanah stands up for Damien in a way he never could for himself. Upon a very recent re-read, I fell in love with Allanah the same way Damien did. I saw her in a very different light and I enjoyed the story even more. I think this story was psychologically the most interesting and I liked the dynamic of Alan and Allanah, I was a bit bummed he turned out so evil. A lovely recommendation and we are nearing the end of the series as well. This was a lovely almost end to one of my favourite families.
