Two can keep a secret – Karen M. McManus

I would love to know how I have managed to think I read this series out of order without noticing when realizing that within my box set were just two books that are a duet and two other stories. It has been a whole thing, but at the end of the day, it does not quite matter because this book does not even take place anywhere around the story of the first book.

The book in short
Echo Ridge is a small-town America. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone’s declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she’s in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous–and most people aren’t good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it’s safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

What did I think about the book?
After reading one of us is lying, this book was a bit of a disappointment. It was very predictable and there was no major difference between the different viewpoints. I found the story to be short enough for it to not matter. As I said the story was predictable and it didn’t really hold my attention. It did put me off the rest of the series but as I have two more stories to read I will eventually continue the series. If I had bought them separately I wouldn’t have bothered with any other story. I am unsure what it was but I just didn’t connect to this story at all.
Also, a minor pet peeve, when I read Ellery I keep thinking about celery. Overall, I try to be positive but I am not sure how to go about it. The story itself was written as well as one of us lying but the story itself wasn’t it for me. Maybe if you want to read the whole series or really love the author this might be a great story for you. It wasn’t bad in any way, it was simply not really for me. It might become your favourite though so if it seems interesting, give it a go. For me, I am hoping the other two I own are a bit more like One of Us is Lying.
