Book Tag

Do you remember tags? I enjoyed watching and reading them back in the day. Today I decided to revisit a tag but in a new coat. I found a 20-question booktag here, and here. I have changed some of the questions because some didn’t work for me.

How many books are too many books in a series?

Honestly, I do not love series all that much. Especially books that are a series and then a new book comes out with a POV from one of the other books. For example Midnight Sun, or a new book that is set at an earlier time, for example, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. I never know how to read these books. Shall I read the whole series and then the new one or in the order it happened in time? Things like that make me a bit stressed for some reason which makes me unable to choose what I would like the best. Generally speaking though, more than four I suppose because then they do separate bundles and those are usually very expensive.

How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Quite recently I have realised that I love endings. Endings are my favourite and because I care so deeply about them, I sometimes cannot stand for my heart to break so I do not read the last few pages of a re-read (I do this with films also). I do not mind cliffhangers, they leave this place of utter possibility wide open. Anything and everything can happen. There is something peaceful about looking away from the crash before it happens, almost as if the hurt then cannot touch you.

Hardback or paperback?

I have about 5 hardbacks, 2 of which I have read, and 3 of which I haven’t read. I know that for at least one of them, it is not the writing style. I think that I do not like the feeling of hardbacks they remind me of library books, and there is always a distance between me and a hardback. In addition, they do not lay as nice in your hand and I love seeing a book I loved fiercely. I love a well-opened spine, I secretly enjoy that the pages do not lay flat all the way when put down. I love everything a paperback has to give and it’s less expensive.

Favorite and least favorite book?

I do not play favourites, in general, I also do not play the least favourite. If I truly do not like a book and when I decide that the ending is not worth the trouble I usually just put the book down. There is no reason to read a book you will not like. Frankly, it is a bit silly. I also find that I will get into more in a different post but the way one feels about a book has so much to do with your internal feelings when you read it. I find that sometimes I enjoy books better when I am in a different headspace.

Love triangles, yes or no?

Not once have I read a book with a truly convincing love triangle. I think people like to make triangles happen more than they do. The author and thus the protagonist have a preference, there is never any game. There is never any struggle. It always is ‘if things were different’ but they never are. In conclusion, not a fan.

The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Eleanor Elephant is completely fine, I do not know what it is with that book. I wanted it for ages and when I got it I started reading. I hated the main character, which had never happened before nor has it happened since. I heard so many amazing stories though so I decided to put it down for the time and read it at another time when I felt different.

A book you’re currently reading?

I am currently listening to Vogayer from the Outlander series and I am between paper books.

Last book you recommended to someone?

The Midnight Library, I enjoyed this book. I think it is an interesting read that even none readers can enjoy.

Best classic you have read?

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
Also, I suppose one of the only classics I truly read and finished.

Latest book you’ve read?

The love hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, which a review will be coming but it will take some time I suppose to gather all my thoughts.

Favorite Author?

I do not play favourites there are a few I would love to have a coffee with but I have no Author that I would call my favourite.

Buying books or borrowing books?

I love owning books and reading them over and over again. When I have a book I didn’t enjoy I donate them. At a train station near my Uni, they have a desk where you can pick up a book for the train (for free it’s a trading table). The idea is when you finish you put it on one of the trading tables in whatever station you are at at the time. I take my books there drop them off and let others enjoy them.

A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Every book was written by John Green, I have nothing against the man but his endings are so unsatisfactory to me.

Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks, I do not even have to explain this one.

A book you can always reread?

Twilight and Harry Potter, for me, are classics. Fun fact twilight was the first English book I ever read and the main reason I read predominantly English today.

Can you read while listening to music?

Yes, either music of another language or instrumental although I love silence or simple bird song. For the latter, I just open my windows.

One POV or multiple POVs?

If done well multiple POVs can be so interesting and enlightening and wonderful. If it is done poorly it takes away from the story a lot. I enjoy both and generally have no preference. Most books I pick up are one POV but that is not deliberate just the stories I navigate towards.

Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

It depends on the length, my time, and frankly the author. Some books you have to put down after an hour as if the story needs to marinate in the mind. Other books you have to fly through as if they will catch up with you if you do not. So it depends. Due to my timing, it is usually multiple days.
