Thirteen Reasons Why Season 1 (2017)
I have been binge-watching this series for two days straight. It was a rollercoaster. I am so excited to tell you what I thought because this series has become viral. Now it isn’t a happy series at all, but it’s good to talk about.
What is the series about?
The series follows Clay Jensen, in his quest to uncover the story behind his classmate and crush, Hannah, and her decision to end her life.

What did I think?
It was intense and an interesting series. I do think it’s a good thing to see to understand what goes on in the mind of someone who takes their own life.
I do think that even though all those people did things that led her to Hannah’s suicide I don’t think it was their fault. You cannot (ever) blame someone for your mental health. People might do things that do not help their mental health. And some people did worse things than others.
However, none of these people made her kill herself. That was all Hannah. It is terrible to blame others because she had serious mental issues and she needed to see a professional. The counselor at her school might have been bad and truthfully he is the only one that can be blamed. But to blame these other children and make them go through these tapes is just bad. We see it in Clay and his deteriorating mental health.
Everything on top of someone who was already mentally unstable caused Hannah’s suicide and it was very sad. We can all be a bit kinder, and all a bit nicer but it wasn’t their fault. Tapes like these could have caused a wave of suicides because their other teens might internalize this fault that Hannah puts on their shoulders.
Hannah’s problem was her mental health and you don’t hear much about that throughout the show. I did like the series and it has value but for younger teens, this isn’t the series to watch. An adult mind can see this and see the perspective of the girl who wasn’t mentally alright whereas a lot of teens really can’t I think. It is good for a series to have people talking about rape, abuse, and suicide but things could have been depicted a bit better.
Overall a fine series and an interesting watch. If you struggle with mental health I advise to give this one a miss
Lots of love,
